ChEsSo cruise to the Southern Ocean

The ChEsSo cruise (JR224) on board RRS James Clark Ross is underway from 12 Jan - 18 Feb 2009, exploring deep Antarctic waters for hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. Cruise PIs from the UK include Doug Connelly, Rob Larter (Chief Scientist), Alex Rogers (InterRidge Steering Committee Member), and Paul Tyler (Co-Chair of the ChEss project of the Census of Marine Life). Scientists from Portugal and Spain are also participating in this multidisciplinary expedition, and scientists from the USA are also collaborating to study evolutionary relationships of the chemosynthetic fauna from the Southern Ocean.
