This summer the G.O.Sars will head north once more with students and scientists from a variety of disciplines including geology, geochemistry, biology and microbiology. Part 1 Exploration: 29 June-18 July: Building on the results of previous cruises, researchers hope to localise Norway’s most northerly hydrothermal vents. They will test new equipment and localising methodologies. In addition they will take a number of short sediment cores to learn more about the unique sedimentation history of this area. Other highlights include seamount exploration and dredging. InterRidge press release: Discovery of world’s most northerly black smokers at 73°N, http://www.interridge.org/node/5581
